ALL HIKERS

DAY 1: LIPAN POINT TO TANNER REDWALL

I walk the road to the trailhead and start down.  The Colorado River comes into view right away and is running a pretty green color.

I'm surprised to find some snow on the upper sections of the trail.  In just a few minutes, I meet a group of four who have gone to Tanner Rapids and attempted a day hike from there to the Little Colorado.  The fourth person in the group, who was farther down the trail, tells me they were turned back by the exposure on the Beamer Trail just past Palisades Creek.

In about one hour, I reach Stegosaurus Rock.  When viewed from the back side, it's easy to see how it got its name with its vertical fin-like rocks on top resembling a prehistoric dinosaur.  It's a pretty view looking down 75-Mile Canyon.

The Desert View Watchtower soon comes into view.  Mary Jane Colter picked a great spot for the tower with its magnificent views looking down Tanner Canyon.

I make the large loop that eventually goes by Cardenas Butte.  That means it's not too much farther until you reach the top of the Redwall.

I pull into camp just before 3:00.  There are fantastic views from here looking down towards Tanner Rapids and the Colorado River, so this makes a great place to camp.  After setting up my tent, I relax the rest of the afternoon.  I have the place to myself.

After supper, I decide to go to bed early.  Who knows, maybe I'll get around early tomorrow morning.
