I was born and raised in Oklahoma City. I graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1964, where I was twice a State champion in tennis and was named to the Honorable Mention Oklahoma All-Decade Tennis Team for the 1960s. I attended Oklahoma City University on a tennis scholarship, graduated with a degree in mathematics, and did graduate work in math at the University of Oklahoma. I later taught math at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University. I then entered the United States Air Force, graduated from Officer Training School and pilot training, and became a T-38 instructor pilot. In 1997, I retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. I graduated from Oklahoma City University with a Juris Doctorate degree in Law. After fourteen years of government and private law practice, I was a District Court Judge in Oklahoma for sixteen years. I was named Oklahoma Judge of the Year in 2001. I am still an active tournament tennis player and enjoy hiking the Canyon at every opportunity I get.
