ALL HIKERS

POSTSCRIPT

While the weather for this hike was horrible the first day with deep snow and cold temps, it became better each day, so all in all, it turned out to be a good hike.  A rim-to-rim hike with our itinerary is about as easy as it gets in the Canyon.  I normally like to spend two nights at the bottom on rim-to-rim hikes, but time constraints only allowed us to spend one night there.  The Covid pandemic forced us to eat our meals at Phantom Ranch outside.  Hopefully, that situation will change soon as it's pretty neat to eat inside that historic building.

Numerous critters such as mice, ravens, squirrels, and ringtails are a threat to attack your food in the inner Canyon.  There are several types of food bag defenses against critter attacks.  I use one of the mesh stainless steel bags with a Velcro closure system.  Whichever product you choose, it is important to have one one on your hikes.  The Park Service used to have small metal ammo cans for your food protection at their corridor trail sites.  They have now replaced those with big, white metal boxes that are very nice and roomy.
