             CREEK LODGE

We wake up and take a short drive to the General Grant Tree first thing.  The towering sequoias are there to greet us in the parking lot at first light.  They are truly impressive!!  We are the only people here.

We are the only car in the parking lot

It’s actually not light enough yet for good photos, so I suggest walking a while on the surrounding network of trails before circling back to the main event.  We take a slow walk in the sequoias, stopping continually and craning our necks to look upwards.  They are almost impossible to capture in photos due to their sheer size and height, and it’s one of those things where you just have to be there!

Around 6.30 am we head back to see the General Grant Tree, the second largest tree in the world.  It’s massive size becomes clear as we draw closer.  We really enjoy our visit here.  It’s just amazing!

We have a reservation at Stoney Creek Lodge in the National Forest tonight, but since it’s not check-in time yet, we decide to drive to the Big Meadow trailhead.  From there, we take a short out and back hike on the Jennie Lakes Trail of about three miles.  It seems to be a popular overnight trip for families.

Finally, it’s time to head over to the lodge.  It’s a cute little place and I am so excited about showers!
