We want to get a little hike in before
starting the long drive home, so we stop at the Big
Trees Trailhead, which is on our way. This is much
more of a front country type of hike, a circuit around a
very pretty little meadow surrounded by large sequoias
and other pines. I notice some very fresh bear
sign here within a few minutes of walking, including
some unmistakeable muddy paw prints on the boardwalk.
Just as we are completing the circuit we see a very
light brown caramel colored bear tearing up a log,
looking for grubs. We stop to observe for a while,
but he doesn’t pay the slightest
attention to us.

Finally, it’s time to say goodbye to
Sequoia and King’s Canyon National Parks. We take
the long winding road down the mountain and head back
home to the Grand Canyon.
