DAY 3 - DAY HIKE TO BOUCHER RAPIDS

We had originally planned to do a day hike to Slate Creek today, but that now seems like a crazy idea after yesterday’s hot weather.  It sounds much more appealing to head down to the beach for the day!  We're off at 7 AM and it takes less than an hour to arrive at the beautiful river beach and rapids.  This hike follows the Boucher Creek bed all the way down to the Colorado River, passing by the turn off to continue west on the Tonto.  The route involves crisscrossing the creek many times, and picking a path out on the creek bed stones.  The descent is barely noticeable, which I’m happy about.  At the beach, the roar of the rapids is quite powerful.  A cliff and trees provide ample shade and we have a fun day dipping into the River, reading, eating, doing some yoga and walking around the area.  We wait until the shadows lengthen in the afternoon to make the return journey and camp once more at Boucher Creek.
