ALL HIKERS

PREFACE

This will be my fourth Grand Canyon hike with my daughter, Beth.  We tried the last three years to get an October rim-to-rim permit, but were turned down every time.  We finally gave up on that and applied for a May hike, even though the temperatures would be warmer then.

We make the two-day drive from Oklahoma to the North Rim.  Since this is Beth's first time on the north side, we decide to visit some of the sights.  First up is Point Imperial, the highest point in the Grand Canyon at 8803', overlooking Mount Hayden.

After that, it's on to Cape Royal to see the Angel's Window and Wotan's Throne.  Looking closely through the Window one can see the Colorado River in the distance.  Beth and I make our way down the walking path and out onto the top of the Window.  As we are nearing the viewing area to see Wotan's Throne, we pass a Scout group that appears to be headed down for a hike.  That looks pretty rough below here.

Originally, Beth and I had planned to camp out at the campground tonight, but I was able to snag a room at the North Rim at the last moment.  We check in and move our hiking gear to our room.  Although I have been to the North Rim many times, I have never eaten at the Lodge, so Beth and I are doing that tonight.  After a very good dinner, we head back to our room and prepare for the hike tomorrow.
