ALL HIKERS

POSTSCRIPT

Despite the warmer temperatures in May, this was a really good hike.  Beth got to see the North Rim for the first time.  Some of those highlights were the North Rim Lodge, Point Imperial, Mount Hayden, Cape Royal, and the Angel's Window.  With its higher elevation, the North Rim has a much more diverse plant life and trees.  It's very pretty and has far fewer crowds than the south side.

The first day of our hike might have been the prettiest.  We really enjoyed the descents through all the various rock formations and passing Roaring Springs with its water gushing out of the side of a mountain.  Day two led us to Ribbon Falls and then through the Box, a section of the North Kaibab Trail with very high, narrow canyon walls.  Day three was our layover day at the bottom and saw us hiking up the Clear Creek Trail to the overlook at the top.  The views from there were magnificent.  On Day four, we hiked to Indian Garden and then out to Plateau Point for supper.  It too has fantastic views.  We hiked out on Day five.

Numerous critters such as mice, ravens, squirrels, and ringtails are a threat to attack your food in the inner Canyon.  There are several types of food bag defenses against critter attacks.  I use one of the mesh stainless steel bags with a Velcro closure system.  Whichever product you choose, it is important to have one on your hikes.
