My daughter Beth talked to me about a hike she was considering to
Kilimanjaro, the highest peak on the African continent. I checked it out, but was a little
concerned about the 19,340' altitude. I know from my days as an
Air Force pilot that you can easily have oxygen problems at that
altitude. Anyway, she hates the cold. After discussing it
with her, we agree instead to go together to Peru and hike the Inca
Trail to the ruins at Machu Picchu. We book our trip with REI and
begin our workouts in preparation for the hike. Since this is
probably the only time we will visit Peru, we decide to go three days
early and spend some time in Lima.
