ALL HIKERS

PREFACE

This is one of the north side hikes I have been wanting to do for some time.  At age 60, it will be my first solo hike in the Canyon.  This will also be my first time to stay in the Bright Angel Lodge.  I originally made this an early March hike so I could see Cheyava Falls.  However, with the driest winter on record in Arizona, the falls will most assuredly be dry.  My backup plan is to explore the area including the Obi Canyon ruins.  I have scheduled three days in the Clear Creek area.  With seven total days for this hike and two extra days below the rim, my body should have plenty of recovery time.

I visit the Backcountry office the day before my hike starts.  The weather is clear and warm.  They advise there is no ice at the South Kaibab trailhead, but that there is a small front coming through tonight.  I have used the foot anti-perspirant trick and I will have my GPS and pocket sized digital recorder.
