After my rim to rim
hike last year, I am excited about another trip. The Canyon kind of
grows on you. Tim, my hiking buddy from last year, and I have been
talking with another attorney here in town, Dennis Hladik, who agrees to go
with us this year. At the last moment, Tim cancels, so Dennis and I
head for the Canyon at 5:00 A.M. on October 7, 2001, driving the 16 hours
straight through. We spend the night at Mather Campground. After
breakfast at McDonalds in Tusayan, we go back to the South Rim for some
pictures.

We will be doing another North Rim to
South Rim hike with three nights in the Canyon at Cottonwood Camp, Bright
Angel Campground, and Indian Garden. However, unlike last year's trip,
we will drive to the North Rim first, do our hike, and then take the
Trans-Canyon shuttle back to the North Rim for our car. After
sight-seeing and shopping at the South Rim, we make the long drive to the
North Rim. The aspen trees are beginning to turn and are really
pretty.

I have never seen the lodge so we drive
there first thing and then walk out to Bright Angel Point. Having your
car on the north side allows you to have extra clothing for camping and then
be able to store that in the vehicle during your hike. We spend the
night at the North Rim Campground.
