The Widforss Trail is named for the famous water color painter, Gunnar Widforss, who took up residence at the North Rim in the 1930s.  To reach the trailhead drive north on Highway 67 just past the North Kaibab Trail parking lot.  Turn west at the highway sign onto a nice gravel road and travel seven-tenths of a mile to the parking lot.  The trail begins on the south side of the parking lot.  Trail brochures are available at the trailhead sign.  The trail is well maintained, easy walking, and begins a gradual climb to reach the main plateau overlooking the inner Canyon.  Information markers are placed along the trail with numbers that correspond to explanatory text in the brochure.  There are numerous flowers and great inner Canyon viewing points once you reach the plateau on the initial climb.  This is one of those North Rim day hikes that offers everything you could want:  easy walking conditions, flowers everywhere, and fantastic views of the inner Canyon.
